Test Your Security Awareness
publish date: April 7, 2020
Intellicom’s partner for security awareness training, KnowBe4, shared their April newsletter with us, free of charge, to demonstrate to our customers the quality of their content. The topic of this month’s newsletter was incident response. While the end goal of security awareness is to prevent security incidents, every organization must have a “just in case” plan in place. Incident reporting could be the difference between suffering long-term impacts and a fast, effective recovery. Similar to medical emergencies and fire escape routes, a good incident response plan leaves no detail undefined and prepares you for nearly every security scenario. Just in case.
Click here to find and download the newsletter content. To make the content even more meaningful, they suggest forwarding it to your employees along with the scavenger hunt found below:
Scavenger Hunt Questions (and Answers):
- The initial step of most incident response plans, _____ is the process of compiling a list of assets and identifying risks to those assets. (preparation)
- Failing to prepare is preparing to ____. (fail)
- True or False: security events and security incidents are the same things. (False)
- By always following these, you help reduce security incidents. (organizational policies)
- Your role in incident response is to stay alert and report incidents _____. (immediately)
Remember to remove the answers in red before sending out the scavenger hunt to your employees.
How to use the newsletter blurb and scavenger hunt questions.
Each month, the newsletter from KnowBe4 is accompanied by a short blurb highlighting what’s covered, followed by five scavenger hunt questions. You’re encouraged to edit these (the blurb and questions) to your liking! Their purpose is to quickly introduce the content and gamify it by challenging end users to correctly answer all five questions. When you’re ready to distribute the newsletter, simply include the blurb in an email along with the scavenger hunt questions. Or, alternatively, send out the questions after distributing the newsletter to truly test if your employees retained the information.
What’s the point of the scavenger hunt questions?
Even though our newsletter is designed to be both informative and engaging, we believe gamification offers a strong way to blend education with entertainment. By turning the newsletter into a scavenger hunt, you accomplish two important objectives: 1) you create an entertaining learning exercise, and 2) you can confirm that your employees retained the information you want them to learn. If possible, we encourage you to incentivize this process in some manner suitable for your organization.
