Since 2004, the President of the United States and Congress have declared the month of October to be Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a dedicated month for the public and private sectors to work together to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity.
This is the 20th Cybersecurity Awareness Month and it has grown into a collaborative effort between government and industry to enhance cybersecurity awareness, encourage actions by the public to reduce online risk and generated discussion on cyber threats on a national and global scale.
We encourage you to go to this link, Cybersecurity Awareness Month | CISA , and watch the two-minute long video from CISA. CISA is the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency which is the federal government agency charged with preparing for, responding to, and mitigating the impact of cyberattacks.
As mentioned in the short video, CISA recommends four important actions that every company – small and large – and also every individual American should take to protect themselves from danger. These four actions are included in the steps Intellicom has long recommended to our customers. The four are:
- Use a strong, unique password for every application – and use a password manager
- Use Multi-Factor Authentication.
- Treat every email and text with caution, and don’t click on links in emails from unknown senders.
- Keep your devices patched with the latest security updates.
